It may be all the same gloom and doom, but the sneak peek video montage sure grabbed my attention. And gave me goose bumps. Big ones.Planet in Peril is an exclusive CNN documentary that explores the earth’s most pressing environmental issues. Hosted by Anderson Cooper, Jeff Corwin, and Dr. Sanjay Gupta, it is a two-part, four-hour special with breathtaking images and some startling numbers – along the lines of “We lose 7,000 square miles of rainforest each year…roughly the size of the state of New Jersey”.
Cooper is joined by Corwin, Emmy-winning host of The Jeff Corwin Experience on Animal Planet, wildlife biologist, and lifetime conservationist. The special also features Gupta, chief medical correspondent for the health and medical unit at CNN and a practicing neurosurgeon. By the looks of it, I’d say they know their stuff.
This worldwide investigation spans five continents and 13 countries, including Brazil, China, Greenland, Madagascar, and Alaska. It deals with four key issues: climate change, vanishing habitats, disappearing species, and human population growth (The world’s population grew from 1.6 billion to 6.1 billion in the last 100 years – yikes!). From exposing illegal wildlife trading in Southeast Asia to seeing first-hand the devastating effects of deforestation in Brazil, Cooper, Corwin, and Gupta get down and dirty.
