Andhra Peetala Pulusu

Andhra Peetala Pulusu - Crab Curry ( Andhra Style )
I have taken step by step pictures and Video .
Since the crab was alive I wanted to capture the crab dance and leg moves. ( Pretty cool )
Intro for Peetalu Pulusu
I was grocery shopping today and I found some fresh live Crab. I decided to get some crabs and cook today.
So I got 4 Blue crabs they are so beautiful.

Since they were live I put them in a bucket with cold water and ice.
When ready to cook I Washed them thoroughly with water and set aside.
Ingredients
Salt - 2 tb sps (adjust according to taste)
Red Chillie powder - 3 tb spsgreen
Green Chillies - 6 (slit length wise)
Tamarind - 1 big Chunk (soaked in 2 cups of water)
Coriander leaves - 1 small bunch (finely chopped)
For the Masala:
Coconut - 2 tb spoons.
Onions - 4 (slit lengthwise)
Dhaniyalu Podi(coriander Poweder ) - 3 tb spoons
Jeera powder (cumin powder ) - 2 tb spoons
Ginger - garlic - paste 2 tb spoons
Garam Masala - 1 tb spoon
Preparation :
1. Mix all the ingredients for the masala to smooth paste and set aside.
2. In a deep pan heat 4 tb sps of oil, add green chilli , Onion and cook till golden brown.
3. Add the masala ingredients and let it cook for a 2 minutes.
4. Add the cleaner Crab to the pan.
5. Cover and cook for a few minutes
6. Remove the lid and add tamarind juice. Increase the flame and allow to cook for 5 mts. Lower the flame again, cover and cook for about 30 mts till the tamarind sauce turns to gravy consistency. Adjust salt according to taste.
7. Garnish with chopped coriander and serve with hot rice.
Crab in Red Bucket in water and Ice.

Clean and ready to be cooked.

Chilli and Onion Cut to small pieces
Masala - Ginger Garlic ; Coriender Power , Coconut , Garam Masala
Tamarind in abowl - I love the microwave - take a required amount of tamarind and put it in a small cup with some water and microwave for 2 minutes it softens and its easy to sqeeze the juice and saves time in soaking for a while.



All the ingredients in the pan and its cooking ...see the steam


Almost done - as the gravy is thickening



Garnish with parsley parsley

There we go the final product

Enjoy some mouth watering Crab Curry - Peetala Pulusu .

I prefer the "Andhra Style" rather than the Maryland crabs (Mallet, pliers etc.) & therefore thx for the recipe.
